Cuddalore Collectorate
Design presentation for Green Collectorate, Cuddalore 2012

This design presentation was made to the District collector in association with M/S. Mc D Berl, Bangalore.

Program

The project brief was developed by the PWD Cuddalore, after collecting information from each office and department to be housed within the New Collectorate building. The overall design objective was to create a comfortable and inspirational work environment, within a campus that sets a benchmark for green design. The tangible green objective was to have a net zero energy and water positive campus.

Approach

The initial building design and layout was presented to all stake holders to provide input for further design development. The layout plans indicating all departments, offices and green systems was finalized after in-depth discussion over a series of meetings.

Design

The symmetric building layout was determined by protocol. The configuration of the five storey structure was derived to optimize day-lighing, natural ventilation and views of the landscape. A series of diagonal fins form a shading device on the North facade, and the continous corridors on the South serves the same purpose. The energy demand was proposed to be met by the building integrated photovoltaic panels.
